Should the U.S. government be allowed to torture suspected terrorists? Why or why not? Your answer must be at least two paragraphs long. Take your time and clearly state your position.
For extra credit: Look at one of your classmates answers and send she or he a comment. You have to debate that person! Therefore, it must be someone that disagrees with you!
PS. If you click on the title it will take you to an article about Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's views on torture.

I think no the government should torture suspected terrorists, because the government is not sure if the suspect did what the government think he/she did, but if the suspect is guilty the should have the right to torture the terrorist.
So as I say on the first paragraph the government should torture the real terrorist, because they can attack any country, any person or they can kill a lot of people on any country, just because they want to do it. so thats what i think about torture suspected terrorists.

Mr.Dilley I can't debate any of my classmates because I'm the first one to do the paragraphs.
German Polanco
German,
You have a point. Therefore, debate me!
German,
How would you know who is and is not a real terrorists? Would you torture them until they confess? I am really curious about that? Also, the world looks or used to look at the United States as the good guys. If we are to tortute people how would that make the United States look like? Is peace for important than freedom, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights? Do you believe in Jesus? He was tortured you know...
Ok...

Mr. PPD
In my opinion I think that the U.S government should not be allowed to torture suspected terrorist. The first reason of why I think that the government should not torture suspects terrorist is because the government is not 100% sure that suspected terrorist are guilty at all, Is not fair that the government blame people just because they think that they are not innocent. Maybe people think that if the government doesn’t do anything about the suspected terrorist because they don’t have enough evidence to blame a suspected terrorist, the suspected terrorist could attack while the government is looking for more evidence. This people are right but the real truth is that however they are blaming innocent people. I think is better that they keep monitoring this suspected terrorist until the government has enough evidence to blame the suspected terrorist.
The last one reason of why I think that the government should not be allowed to torture suspected terrorist is because that will make the government as the terrorist. If the government begins to attack this suspected terrorist, then it would be dangerous to the people and besides the people will think that the government is a terrorist too. So that is why the government shouldn’t attack the people that they are not sure about it. In conclusion, like I said before is better that the government look for another way to stop this people of making danger.

This debate is for Luis:
Oh my GOD Luis.. what is going on in your head??!
Ok you are saying that the government should torture terrorist, that are the people who makes terror to other people and like that they can convince them to do anything they want. But we are talking about SUSPECTED terrorist not about real terrorist. We are talking about people that the government THINK are guilty, they are not sure if they really are terrorist that are making terror to the people. Besides if the government begin to attack people and they are not sure if they are innocent then the people will think that the government went crazy.
So my question is, what would happen if the government get confused and they think that one of your brothers for example is a terrorist and they kill him because he was suspected, but then they know that he wasn't a real terrorist? What would you do? Would be fair?

NoTe: Mr.DiiLLEY ii AM iiN THE TWO SiiDESZ FOR 2 MAiiN REASONSZ THAT U MAY KNOW AFTER U READ THiiSZ...!
The government of United States shouldn't torture suspected terrorist for many reason, but also should act against this problem. First the country of the United States can't be against the constitution of the country. Second, people shouldn't be treat bad for no reason, because everyone is equal they aren't sure if the person should be guilty or no. Third, the United States don't have the right to treat someone bad therefore they shouldn't torture the terrorist for any reason, but also should for other reasons
In the United States has one problem that is terrorism just because the United States has the feet where they don't need to be. This means that they have troops in Saudi Arabia and they don't really need to be in those problems. When the twin towers of the United States were destroyed by airplanes, this cause many problems to the country and also the people of the country. The people of United States were scared of this type of terrorism, many people had problems in their human life mental affecting their life and also their families. This country is one of the country of the world which have war to protect the country of the danger of the world. The war in Iraq make people of the country die fighting in the war against the Iranians. This connect to the question if they suspected terrorist should be torture yes or no in the way that if the country is having this kind of problems the country just should act against the others if is necessary.Protecting the rights of the people and also this nation.

Luis,
You and the Hammurabi Code! Live is a verb; you wanted to say LIFE for a LIFE!
Luis, I will let you friends debate you!
Mr. PPD
Ambar,
Good reasoning, but I will let your classmates debate you!
p.s. The government would hold the suspected terrorists, but not torture them.
Mr. PPD
Luis,
Do you have an answer for Ambar???
Mr. PPD
Good job Ambar
A+
Fedilayne,
Not against Iranians (Iran is a different country, but who knows? They could be next). Point taken!
But what if by torturing suspected terrorists it would save American lives? Isn't the job of the government to protect us first and not worry about foreign terrorists? DO YOU HAVE A RESPONSE? I AM DEBATING YOU!
MR. PPD
Genesis Peña.
In my opinion I think that the U.S. government should torture suspected terrorists because the government’s job is to protect the country of anything danger for it. Also I think that the government should torture the suspected terrorists because they don’t have the right to kill innocent people. Although I know that the government is not going to be sure if they are terrorists truly I think he should have the right to torture them. The main reason of why the U.S. government should torture suspected terrorists is because this people is killing the American people and if they keep doing that the population of this country is going to decrease.
Also I don’t know why terrorists are killing this people because when they are going to cause the act in which they are going to practice terrorism they die as well. So my question is why do they do that if they are going to die too? I think that although the government is not very sure if they are terrorists or not, there is going to be a reason of why the government is going to decide if the terrorist is going to be torture. For example: this is like the amendment 4, no police can enter to your house and arrest you if they don’t have evidence that you have made something wrong, this is the same thing as suspected terrorists because although the government don’t know if they are real terrorists there is always going to be an evidence of why the government is going to torture them. This is my opinion about if the government should or should not torture suspected terrorists.
Genesis Pena,
Well done. I will let your friends debate you!
Mr. PPD
Debating Genesis Peña
Hello Genesis can you be more reasonable this is serious.
We are talking /writing about SUSPECT that mean 50% not really sure you know so how come the United State government have to torture someone that they are not sure if they are terrorist or not maybe they are not imagine if they torture someone that is innocent that is not terrorist that is such as been terrorist with innocent people. What would you do if they suspect that you are a terrorist knowing that you are not ? SO you are trying to say that they have the rights to torture you , torture means make you suffer or kill you . By torturing someone it can make them say what they are not.
“Also I don’t know why terrorists are killing this people because when they are going to cause the act in which they are going to practice terrorism they die as well. So my question is why do they do that if they are going to die too?”
Debate:
If they don’t die because United State Government are not really sure that they are terrorist how come you are saying that they are going to die? And if there is no evidence and they are really a terrorist ? How come they always are going to find evidence and always have the time to investigate before something bad can happen and then it can be to late to prevent ?
In my opinion i agree that the united states government should be allowed to torture the terrorists for many reasons. First than all because they are bad people in many ways, ones is that they don't have feelings, they don't think in what they doing and that they affect the other people. An example why I think that the government should be allowed to torture terrorists is because if you remember in September 11,that the torees gemelas se calleron it was por la cause de los terrorists.
Consequently we have to take a minutes to think all the peple who die, especially childs, old people etc..
Moreover in my opnion i think that they should be torture because the they deserve(merecen)to live.consequently this means like they do horrible thigs killing people etc that means that they do't have feelings for what whappen with the people.Besides if they don't want people to live if will fair that they will die.
Finally i think that the government should be allowed to torture the terrorists for many reasons.

que la pase bien todo el mundo.
For Ambar
But the government can't do that because they have to investigate about the problem morre they can't just take a person that they think is the terrorist, they got to find out if he is the terrorist like you said Ambar for example my brother if they think he is a terrorist, the governmet hs to check my brother's police record to see if he has done something similar before, they has to ask him question before they torture Like for example, Where was you at the time? etc...so they can'tjust take a person that they think is the terrorist they got to investigate
Luis Nuñez
For German
How about if they got the terrorist, but the government think he is not a terrorist, and millions of people are on danger, what would you do or the government should do?

Luis Nuñez
Should the government be allowed to torture people suspected of terrorism?
The government should not be allowed to torture people suspected of terrorism because there is an issue that protects these people from torture, which I am going to explain:
THE GENEVA CONVENTIONS are four but I only that protects prisoners from torture, which is the number three that is the deals primarily with the treatment of prisoners but it was not until 1942 the year that the convention number three was created.
The third Geneva convention protects the sick and wounded members of army services, militia, members of units sponsored by parties of conflict, persons who accompany armed forces (embedded civilians), medical staff. It is applied any time they are in hands of the enemy.
The articles 13, 16, and 17 are required or forbid to the Geneva conventions.
If someone wants to debate this I have more information to can debate this ok.
DANIEL SANCHEZ 207
FOR MR.DiiLLEY
Another thing the government should just star a investigation to make sure that the person is guilty or no. If this person is guilty is really sure that she or he should rapidly be torture. Another thing that government should just make sure that she or he is saying the true.

I don't understand your debate be more clear please...
Paloma,
Good job arguing both sides of the issue. Yet, I will let your classmates debate you as one of them has already!
Mr. PPD
Paloma,
Good questions lets see if Genesis Pena has an answer!
Genesis Pena and Paloma,
Not all terrorists kill themselves during an attack! Some may just shoot innocent people or put bombs and denote via remote control!
Mr. PPD
Karen,
"torees gemelas se calleron it was por la cause de los terrorists": The Twin towers collapsed...
One child... many children! Pay attention to the irregular plural!
Karen, did you really give many reasons or just the fact that they are BAD and they dererve to be tortured? What if they are not actually guilty?
Mr. PPD
Luis,
Good comment to Ambar. Let's see if she has a response? But what if the terrorist has a clean sheet (record)?
Mr. PPD
Luis,
Stop clicking so fast! Almost everyone of your comments is duplicated!
Mr. PPD
For Mr.Dilley
Is the police record is clean they should do like CSI look on there house to see what do they got, to there friends houses with a permmission and maybe look the family and neighborhood
Luis Nuñez
For Luis,
But don't you need some kind of evidence... something about search and seizures and the Bill of Rights... You need to help me out here... I would like to think that torturing even guilty people is wrong at all times... Am I wrong?
Mr. PPD
Daniel,
The Geneva Convention protects combatants from other countries during wars. What about if the suspected terrorist is a U.S. citizen?
Mr. PPD
Daniel,
I want to know your opinion, not what the Geneva Convention says. If you want to quote a document it should be the constitution and the Bill of Rights (5th Amendment???)
Mr. PPD
NInoshka,
You are the only one so far that mentioned that if innocent people are ortured because they are suspected of being a terrorist, that the victim will probably become a terrorist.
What about if there is 100% evidence that the person is a terrorist? Should the United States government be allowed to torture that person then?
Mr. PPD
Ninoshka,
Where is your I Have a Dream speech?
