Cornell Notes

Reading Clues:

1. Begin by looking for Clues: are there any images, key words, main idea or graphs.
2. Set a purpose: why do you think that you were assigned this reading?
3. Quick Read
4. Complete Topic and subtopics
5. Re-read
6. Add details and vocabulary

Right Side of the Notebook:
  1. One Topic (what's the main idea): Give it a title
  2. Two to four subtopics (Important ideas): Give each a title
  3. Add two to for details and vocabulary words to the topic and each subtopic.
  4. Don't forget to highlight or underline vocabulary words

Left Side of the Notebook:

  1. After you finish on the topic and subtopic write a clear one to two paragraph summary of the reading. Think about it as an oral report.
